With the use of the integrated FM tuner, you can enjoy listening to FM broadcasts. Experience theater-like sound effects in your living room, with the Sony BDV-E370 home entertainment system. Including four satellite speakers, a central channel speaker, and a subwoofer, this Sony home theater system ensures you get roaring sounds. This 5.1-channel system with Blu-ray player has a USB direct input, allowing you to directly play the digital contents from your USB drive.
The volume control on the remote is then used to change the volume on the audio system. This all works very well with one problem though, the BDV-E370 assumes that the audio from the TV is coming in via the optical port, so when you switch the TV on, it will auto switch to this input. So a suitable work around is to plug the media player directly into the optical in. This just results in an extra button push to switch to the Analogue input in my case, in order to get audio from the TV into the audio system.
Sony 5.1 Channel VCD Home Theater Systems
The content available is US centric, but the concerning part is that some of the dedicated channels have their latest update as far back as 2009. I really hope Sony updates the service more regularly, and removes channels that are dead. It does do the job to a reasonable standard, but compared to a proper 5.1 channel system with a decent-sized woofer cone, this can't compete.

What it does lack is HDMI inputs, or any video inputs for that matter. So that might sway you towards a bigger system if you have a bunch of equipment to connect. Unlike a lot of Blu-ray players, the E370 has a super-quick load time, which we very much appreciate, being busy and incredibly impatient. A few seconds is all it took to load and start playing Casino Royale and Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs. As far as we're concerned, you get a much more involving and exciting experience from decent surround sound than you can from 3D. For a start, the only special equipment you need to hear sound all around you is a pair of ears.

What we love most is that you don’t have to be a tech boffin to enjoy these features, thanks to the smooth, uncomplicated onscreen displays. Like the latest systems from Panasonic and Samsung, the BDV-E370 provides a range of on-demand content, courtesy of the BRAVIA Internet Video feature. Zip to the Video section in the home menu and you’ll find a list of catch-up TV services, including Demand Five, BBC iPlayer , Eurosport, Blip.tv, LoveFilm, YouTube, Dailymotion and more. This choice of web content puts Panasonic and LG to shame in terms of quantity and quality – only Samsung’s Internet@TV comes close – and it’s great to see that you can watch clips from Dailymotion in HD . The BDV-E370 is Sony’s latest entry-level Blu-ray home cinema system. That makes it a potential rival for Samsung’s brilliant HT-C6930W system, and a much cheaper one at that.
Aside from the speakers, there's no need to buy special attachments for your head because the technology is already built in to your brain. 3D and surround sound in one package; not a bad price if you shop around; great picture; clear sound. Also under the Music menu is a service that allows you to watch concerts by the Berliner Philharmoniker, although this is a premium service that requires online registration. It’s joined by the National Public Radio service, a series of radio programmes from stations around the world. Don’t forget that the network connection can also be used to stream or download BD Live content linked to Blu-ray discs. Chuck a built-in FM radio tuner into the mix and we don’t think you’ll be getting bored any time soon.
HDMI™1
It might seem like a small point, but good bass is crucial in movies, and a good subwoofer can change the whole dynamic of movie viewing. Although the player is 'Wi-Fi ready', it doesn't have a built-in wireless adaptor, so you have to buy an approved one to attach. It's easier to use Ethernet, if necessary, in tandem with powerline adaptors. Not all that loud; a little ugly; wireless rear speakers require optional module.
I hooked this system up to my Sony KDL-40EX400 LCD TV, which matches the system very well. Because both components are made by Sony they support the Sony Bravia Sync technology. This essentially means the systems communicate with each other over the HDMI cable. So the TV is aware that the audio system is on and will feed the audio to the BDV-E370 and mute it’s own speakers.
I found this great for watching movies at a lower volume (don’t wake the kids upstairs). If your audio input is only stereo, then all the speakers are used by the system, and a nice spread of sound fills the room. One last thing, I would prefer the calibration microphone connection to be on the front, once you have the unit all connected up in your cabinet, it’s a pain to connect the mic at the back. With 3 audio inputs, 2 of them digital, you do have ways of connecting equipment that outputs 5.1 sound. I have my media player connected via the optical audio in, and the TV via the analogue audio.

Stuffed into the box is a central control unit, which fuses together a Profile 2.0 Blu-ray player and 850W 5.1-channel amplifier, as well as five compact satellite speakers and a passive subwoofer. The main unit isn’t the most attractive Sony has ever designed, with a chunky shape and dull black finish making it disappointingly anonymous, but the recessed underside and gently glowing white light are pleasant touches. Some 2012 Blu-ray Disc™ players and home theater systems also include the YouTube for TV app . When using the YouTube for TV app you may experience a black screen, or an error message may be displayed, and the video will stop playing.
The Quick Start mode boots up the system in a few seconds, but when activated the system requires more power in standby. As for disc loading, it took an astonishing 35 seconds to close the tray and load Terminator Salvation, one of the fastest times we’ve clocked. Rig up the system for the first time and Easy Setup runs you through the key options to save you having to go back and set them later. Then you can plug the supplied microphone into the back of the main unit and launch the Auto Calibration mode, which tweaks the sound to suit your room’s acoustics. The picture is interrupted at the beginning of a DVD or Blu-ray disc playback.

I installed the Sony Media Remote for iPhone application, and I must say this really is a nice addition to the system, and it’s free. This is really useful when needing to key in your username and password for Youtube. As well as making keying in search strings in Bravia Internet Video real easy. These speakers are reasonably small, and the cables that attach them aren't massive, so be careful if your room is slightly larger than average.
